The sick-call crucifix is traditionally used for Extreme Unction (the Last Rites). But recently, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is administered both to the dying and to those who are gravely ill or are about to undergo a serious operation, for the recovery of their health. It is a ritual of healing appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness.
The Crucifix is constructed so that, when opened, the face of the crucifix can be set upright in a slot in the base. The base of the crucifix has two slots, one on each side of the cross for candles to be placed when priest arrives.
“Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the “priests” of the church, and let them pray over him.” – James 5:14
Rosary Bay is a Christian mission-driven online resource and shop inspired from the beauty of Catholic faith, tradition, and arts. Our mission is to “Restore All Things to Christ!”, in continuing the legacy of Pope St. Pius X under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. “Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?” O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
